Friends of Homestead National Historical Park is a support organization for Homestead National Historical Park.
This historical site tells the story of how homesteading settled the American West. This story covers 270 million acres, is tied to 93 million Americans, spans 123 years and is directly tied to the development of the largest agricultural superpower in the history of the world.
In 2012, the Friends assisted the Historical Park in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Homestead Act of 1862 – one of the most significant laws ever created in the history of the United States.
Other highlights during the past few years include:
-- Unveiling the America the Beautiful Quarter featuring Homestead National Historical Park (formerly Homestead National Park).
-- Hosting the Rise Above Traveling Exhibit telling the story of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. The Park was the first site in Nebraska to host this inspirational event.
-- Hosting the American Solar Car Challenge
--Releasing the iRanger™ mobile interpretive resource at http://iranger.org
--Offering ongoing daily and seasonal activities focused on telling the story of homesteading to children and families, from Christmas on the Prairie to Howling Halloween to Homestead Days.
As a Friend, your financial support will help the Historical Park to continue to tell the story, from first homesteader Daniel Freeman in Nebraska in 1863 to the last homesteader Ken Deardorff in Alaska in 1988. It is a fascinating story of the American Dream and the settling of the American West.
